Swiss Cities

Swiss cities Quality of life and urban flair

Thanks to their manageable size, Swiss cities stand for both quality of life and urban flair. Within a few square kilometers, you will find well-preserved historic town centers, masterpieces of modern architecture and countless green spaces. And even if a rather tranquil and relaxed atmosphere often dominates, there is always a wide range of cultural and gastronomic offerings and wonderful shopping opportunities.

Zurich

Zurich offers countless events, many museums, a diverse gastronomic scene and the liveliest nightlife in Switzerland – undoubtly, the city has become a lifestyle mecca. Zurich's Old Town is the historic center of Zurich and the cultural heart of the city. It is home to numerous sights, such as the Grossmünster, Zurich's landmark. From its towers you can enjoy a spectacular view over the rooftops of the Old Town and the lake all the way to the Alps. Zurich tempts you to shop and stroll. Stroll through the narrow streets of the Old Town with its historic buildings, guild houses, picturesque squares, beautiful boutiques and cozy cafés and restaurants and visit Bahnhofstrasse, one of the most famous shopping streets in the world. Afterwards, you can enjoy peace and relaxation on a boat trip aboard a historic paddle steamer and explore the Lake Zurich region in a laid-back manner.

Berne

Berne's Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a magnificent testimony to medieval urban development in Europe. Berne Minster, historic towers and alleyways, largely preserved sandstone façades, numerous fountains and a unique roofscape characterize the image of the city, which was founded in 1191. With 6 kilometers of arcades, the so-called Laubengänge, Berne has one of the longest weather-protected shopping promenades in Europe. Specialty stores, boutiques, galleries and curiosity stores invite you to take a leisurely stroll. With its spectacular and important museums, Berne also offers an inspiring art experience. Visit the Paul Klee Center, which is dedicated to the life and work of the painter who spent half his life in Berne and houses the world's largest collection of works by Klee, one of the most important artists of the 20th century. Another highlight is the Einstein Museum, which has one of the world's largest collections on Albert Einstein, who lived in Berne for seven years. The exhibition allows visitors to get to know Einstein - physics genius, husband and father - and places his life and findings in the context of world history in a captivating way.

Lucerne

Lucerne, the “most beautiful city in Switzerland”, is picturesquely situated on Lake Lucerne, with an impressive mountain panorama in the background. The city is a promising destination thanks to its sights, attractive shopping and unique location. A gondola ride up one of Lucerne's local mountains, Mount Pilatus or Mount Rigi, or a steamboat trip on the ramified Lake Lucerne is a must. Explore the old town with its historic, frescoed houses, picturesque squares and the covered, medieval Kapellbrücke, the oldest wooden bridge in Europe, famous for its gable paintings. Visit the Rosengart Collection Museum, known for its paintings by Picasso, and the Tribschen country house, where Richard Wagner lived for several years and completed his operas “Die Meistersinger” and “Siegfried”. Lucerne is also a city of music and festivals: the renowned Lucerne Festival brings together classical music stars from all over the world every year, the Lucerne Blues Festival, which takes place in November, has established itself as one of the most important blues festivals in Europe and at the Lucerne International Organ Festival, outstanding organists demonstrate their skills on the famous, monumental large court organ of the Court Church of St. Leodegar.
